Tavern survey results have been compiled, and Madje is
working diligently to review and prepare changes to the system. A note about privatization of events. The QCC is an economic forum. Our aim is to provide a common monetary system, opportunities for commerce, and act as a clearinghouse for information on events and new members. It is not our place to have a say in private matters unless requested by those involved. All further events hosted by houses or individuals should be under the heading "any views, opinions, or rules expressed by event hosts are those of the individual and do not necessarily represent the view or opinions of the QCC". House/individual generated events, the '07 jousting circuit, and to a large extent markets (we simply arrange to make sure one is held each month), all will be allowed to operate as they deem fit in doing all the work required to put on the events for you. The racing circuit will remain our gift to you as the only Council hosted event beyond mixers. (( Please try to understand the position we have to take on this, in order to ensure the longevity of the QCC. Trying to entertain by hosting things ourselves leaves us overburdened, and managing private events just isn't something we should do. )) There
will be the bi-annual letter going out to merchants, necessary to keep our
records updated. Please send your replies as soon as possible upon
receiving it.

QCC
Interviews:
"Err, yes, about that interview....Everyone loves coffee, of course,
but the McClain Sisters put so much love and care when it comes to
Crossing Stone Cafe's coffee orders! I'd like to ask how you two got
started with the business, what made you decide on coffee?"
Arielle:
She smiled at him warmly then looked down to check on the mixture
that was being whisked energetically. "I appreciate that I am allowed
to help, I enjoy it immensely. "
Then hushed as she listened and began pouring the large mugs up. A
blush started then at the compliment and hadn't faded yet as she set the
mug down in front of him.
"Hmm, actually that was my doing. I had bought this building from a
gambler, and decided that instead of a hotel, it would interesting to
set up the lobby with shops. However we needed something to help
support everything, and I decided on this open cafe and serve coffee.
There are so many wonderful coffees out there, but people don't realize
it as they tend to drink old burnt coffees in taverns. Or they think
that something they bought off a shelf that has been sitting around for
a month or more to be good. I had experienced freshly roasted and
ground coffee in my travels and wanted to bring that experience here."
QCC Interviews:
"Mi'than sou, Ari," whispering his thanks quietly as he took up his
mug of cocoa and sipped it nearly as soon as it touched the bar. He was
nodding with agreement as she spoke where sharing the wealth of coffee
was concerned - and trying not to spill his drink on himself.
"I can't tell you how many cups of awful, burned coffee I've had - it's like boiled shoe leather, I tell you, with some cigarette ashes mixed in," so Madje hadn't visited some of the fancier restaurants, but... "The history behind the building itself is wonderful! You say there's a particular way to choose your coffee? I don't know that much about how to go about doing that - I thought any old bag of beans would make coffee, pardon my ignorance. All I know is your coffee tastes like heaven in a cup! Could you tell me more about that?" Arielle:
A nod of agreement, she knew what he meant, the coffee stayed in
something heated too long and it tasted worse as the hours went by. A
tiny arch of brow at the mention of ashes though, that sounded nasty.
"Well, it really starts with the coffee bean itself. Depending on
where a bean grows it can be more acidic, winey, or even fruity. For
example Ethiopian Harrar, it has a sweet syrupy body to it due to the
rich soil. Then there is Indian Monsooned Malabar that grows in India.
Due to the spices and fruits that grow nearby, it tends to pick up those
flavors. Also, because the bean retains moisture from the monsoons, the
coffee is very low in acid with a smooth body and spicy aftertaste. In
so far as how I choose the beans, I only buy those that are healthy
looking and smelling. "
She wasn't really sure what he was looking for, so tried to describe
the process.
QCC Interviews:
Maybe the proprietors of the taverns added a little something extra
into his cup of coffee - who knew? He listened to her lecture on coffee
with wide eyes, blurting out, "I had no idea that it was all so
intricate and detailed! I think I'll have to try every one of your
coffees again and see if I can taste the subtle nuances like spices and
hints of fruit! I hope no one grows coffee near their cow fields,
though..."
Chewing on his lower lip, he thought that wouldn't be a nice coffee at all, chirping softly with a bright smile, "I'm so glad you put so much care and consideration into choosing your coffees! Is it the same for teas? Crossing Stone Cafe carries tea, too, which I know from personal experience is a high-priority cargo and commodity!" Arielle:
A bit of a grin at his reaction. Ehh, she probably knew too much
about it. A gentle nod then and smile. "Possibly more so, I grew to
love tea at an early age from my Aunt Nan. I get samples sent to me
from all over the world now, so Mica and I have tasting nights and then
we choose teas based on their flavor, body and consider healthful
properties. I choose a few for ornamental presentation like Green Peony
and Jasmine Pearl, but both also have delightful flavors and healthy
properties."
QCC Interviews:
"I love tea too," snickering quietly, he took another sip of hot
cocoa, trying to enjoy it before it got cold.
"Especially in good company with tea aficionados - Jasmine, in particular! And then Genmaicha, because it has those little pieces of rice and popcorn in it - though I doubt I'm supposed to eat those, per-say... What are your best sellers for coffee and tea that seem to be popular with most people, and which are your absolute favorites that you think everyone should try if they're not sure what to get?" Arielle:
Nodded in agreement as she sipped at the cocoa. A grin at the
thought of eating the leaves and ingredients.
"I don't think it can hurt you to eat that, but not sure how good it
tastes either." She paused to consider that, "hmm.. with the coffee I
would have to say the Blue Mountain is most popular, though I would
highly recommend the Indian Monsooned Malabar or Haitian Best as my
favorites. As far as the teas go, The Genmaicha and herbal infusions
such as Lemongrass Jasmine are popular. I would recommend trying the
Silver Needles, Bi Luo Chun or Green Roobios Sunshine for not only the
delicate flavors but the healthy properties they contain."
QCC Interviews:
Smiling a little sheepishly, he lifted thin shoulders in a shrug,
"Rice is rice, popcorn is soggy - you just pick out the tea leaves and
put a little sugar on it and it's great, honest! The Monsooned Malabar
sounds really good, too! There are so many delicious flavors to try, a
person could order one to sample each week and never be bored - you have
quite a selection!
Do you have any new selections that you've added recently? And
speaking of sweets, I noticed you had a new variety of sweet treats to
go along with your coffees and teas! What can you tell me about those?
I tried the Celebration Apple and I almost cried it was so good!"
Arielle:
Shoulders shook slightly in a silent chuckle.
"Well as long as you like it, that is what is important. There are
some flower teas were I ate the flower petals, they were good. The
Indian Monsooned Malabar is actually new, it was a long process to get
trade agreements for that one. Tazanian Peaberry and Papa New Guinea
are fairly new as well. As far as teas, we are still in the tasting
process there." A chuckle at the mention of the sweets.
"Oh yes, Mica loves sweets and cookies. We thought as both go well
with tea or coffee that the addition of sweets around the holidays would
be nice. Speaking, of, we only offer those at holidays."
QCC Interviews:
Being that he was Crow, that meant he practically ate anything,
really! Smirking, he coughed and finished up his mug of cocoa, thinking
he'd have to try out the new flavors!
"It must be difficult to get countries to assent to let you bring their coffee treasures over," nodding with a slightly awed expression as he tried to imagine, "I hope you add more, soon - and that there are plenty of holidays during which we can enjoy your delicious treats! Now, I'm sure everyone's curious about your Tea and Coffee sets, but in particular, your Limited Edition sets! Some of those are absolutely spectacular! Where in the world did you come across those, and is it true that once you're sold out of a set, there won't be any others like them sold?"
Arielle:
She smiled a bit and nodded.
"It tends to be more price oriented and shipping oriented."
A grin then, "Thank you, I look forward to the holidays and finding
sweets!" A slight tilt of head at that. "Oh, Tori Coventry designs
those, she and her husband live here, while they have a studio here,
they travel frequently to Uawynne which is where the sets are generally
completed. And yes, once a set sells out there are no more of it to be
had, I have one set that did sell out actually. They are originals and
while beautiful on the table, are collectors items as well."
QCC Interviews:
"Au, I see, I see! Well I think all your coffees are well worth the
prices we humble customers pay for the quality!"
Laughing softly, he arched a thin black brow at her and grinned, "I'll be certain to send you some of my favorites if that's what you mean. Tori Coventry! Please extend my compliments to her artistry - her pieces are nothing short of exemplary! I'm so glad that she makes them available for sale at your shop, they'd make great gifts! Now, I was also wondering what in the world Yish...Yicks..." He gave up trying to pronounce it and waved his hands around a little, "Y-i-x-i-n-g...The cute little clay tea pots - what's so special about those, and does Ms. Coventry make those, too? Are there any special instructions if someone wanted to make tea with those?"
Arielle:
"Thank you, I try to keep the prices in line so the coffees are
affordable. "
Smiling then and sipping at the cooling chocolate and nodded then
laughed.
"That sounds good to me! And I will relay to her that you enjoy her
work. Yixing? It is like Mixing, but with a Y, so Yicksing would be
about right."
A little shake of head then. "No she does not, those are imported
from the Yixing province of China and created there. The wonderful
thing about a Yixing pot is the clay, it is a rich mineral clay and
absorbs the oils of the tea infused in it, becoming seasoned after
repeated use. Yixing pots tend to be personal items and highly prized.
If you visit someone and they offer you a cup of tea from their Yixing
pot it is considered a great honor. Yixing pots really should be only
used for one type of tea, so it is common for someone to have several
different Yixing Pots."
QCC Interviews:
Madje gawked just a little as Arielle let him in on the secret
behind the mysterious Yixing pots, his eyes wide with excitement!
"Yixing, Mixing, Yixing - I think I've got it! Thank you for that!" He laughed softly and played with his empty mug, rotating it around in his hands clockwise till the handle touched his fingers then reversing it. "Au, and that's such a wonderful idea, too - you wouldn't want your tea flavors to mix! Now people will know just how special they are if someone serves them out of their Yixing Pots! They're so pretty, I imagine people would enjoy collecting them as they are, even if they don't use them for tea!" Thinking another moment, he glanced out the window to try and see what time it was and chirped a little, "Ay, I'd better not keep you from sleeping! Do you have anything else you'd like to tell people before we wrap up the interview? Any specials or sales you're offering, or helpful advice?"
Arielle:
She grinned watching him, most people found all of this boring, he
seemed to enjoy it though and that was nice. She didn't get to really
talk about her products too often.
"I haven't announced it yet, but there is going to be a sale
starting on the 1st of February and running through Valentines Day.
Almost everything, including the coffee's and teas will be 25% off. The
Special Editions will be 15% off as well." Lower lip was bitten gently
as she contemplated on advice.
"My suggestion is that when buying coffee, never buy more than you
are likely to drink in ten days, the longer it sits after roasting or
grinding, the more flavor it loses. Also, if possible, cold brew it and
keep it cold, that way, every single cup tastes as if it were just
brewed and you have cold coffee ready for cool drink if wanted."
QCC Interviews:
The Crow was always curious and interested in what people had to
say, particularly if it involved anything to do with delicious drink and
food! Life was too short to not enjoy the best and tastiest things, as
it was! At the mention of the sales, he was practically bouncing in his
seat with excitement!
"Au! Au! That's so wonderful!! And that's great advice, too, I'm glad I didn't just buy so much coffee that I couldn't drink it all in ten days!" Gods be merciful if he ever tried to drink several pounds worth in the space of a week... "Thank you so much for the interview, Ari, everyone appreciates all the coffee wisdom and knowledge you have to offer!" Arielle:
She smiled and nodded, eyes glancing downwards again before
returning up to his face.
"You are most welcome. Ahh one second." Lifted a hand to pause him
from dashing out the door. Turning she opened the door of one of the
cold boxes and pulled out a slim jar that was labled "Indian Monsooned
Malabar" that was filled with that coffee's rich coffee syrup.
"Why don't you try it? That way you can experience first hand the
benefits of cold brewing. Just mix 1 part coffee syrup to 4 parts of
hot water or possibly cold water or even 2 parts cold water and 2 parts
milk to make an iced coffee drink. "
The jar was placed in a bag and handed over the bar to him.
QCC Interviews:
He was rising from his seat to stand again when she stopped him,
though he certainly wasn't eager to get back outside into the chilly
winter air. His eyes widened again when she handed him the Monsooned
Malabar, accepting it and hugging it to his chest with one arm. The
other wrapped about her shoulders as he leaned over and hugged her
tightly, kissing her cheek!
"Au!!! Thank you SO much, Ari!! I'll go home straight away and get to it while I do my Council work! Thank you, thank you! I'll send in my order early so you don't have to worry about it coming in too late! I'll see you soon, takka? Please take care, and sleep well!" Arielle:
She laughed and hugged him back, returning the kiss to his cheek.
"You are most welcome, you get some sleep as well! Let me know how
you like that coffee. "
A smile and nod, "Thank you, anytime is fine, the coffee isn't
roasted until I have the order." Lifting a hand in wave she called after
him. "Yes, I will see you soon, please take care and you better get some
sleep!"
QCC Interviews:
"I'll be sure to! Takka, I look forward to receiving my order - I
can't wait to see what my friends think, either! Goodnight, Ari!!"
With his delicious caffeine treat in hand, he was off through the door licking his lips, hugging the jar against his chest as if it'd keep him warm. On the trip back home, he'd sip on a little of the coffee syrup, too, because he loved the taste anyway, and sweetness was tolerable in small, concentrated amounts!
