The next QCC Sale Barn is scheduled for August 6th.  There are several QCC race horses already slated for the auction. If you have additions you would like us to sell on your behalf, please get us the information as soon as possible.

On the horizon is a more efficient and organized compilation ( frameset ) of all of our QCC Racing regulations.  We are working towards making every requirement, stat, listing, fee, guideline, and form crystal clear and quick and easy to find. Only two changes are being made, the rest will be organization and clarification on the existing.
1 - stable *owners* will need to attend the races in person, and represent their own stables at least once every three cycles ( six months ). This is regardless of having reps or managers.
2 - Betting parameters are being defined as:  no bets smaller than 10 qcoins. This has been previously stated, but needed to be in black and white. Bet figuring takes up an inordinate of time, and bets smaller than 10qcoins do not outweigh the effort to calculate them.  Upper limits are now 10,000 qcoins total bet over the course of each month's regular races. Any bets placed beyond that amount will be automatically voided.

We are also looking to expand the backup pool of racing announcers. Anyone who is interested in trying their hand at it in a training session can earn 300 qcoins.  If, after completing the training, you don't feel its something you do not wish to do, you'll still be paid for your time and effort.  If you enjoy announcing and its earning potential, we'll add you to our list and may call on you when our regular announcers find themselves unavailable. Contact the Council if you'd like to schedule a training session.

The July mixer is set for Monday July 17th.  The mixers are a chance to socialize without the distraction of games, event goals, or sales.  Food will be provided. The mixers are a good chance to meet members from other houses, see old friends, discuss business, or make new contacts.  Hope to see you there!

Next update will be
August 1st.

[ Don't forget the QCC Message Board- While the mailstrings have limiting guidelines, members may use the board for things like merchant business flyers as often as they wish.]

MERCHANT SPOTLIGHT

Recently a conversation was held with Mathias of Dreaded Islander Forge.

QCC:  Madje showed up on Mathias' doorstep one morning - or rather, the entrance to his blacksmithing shop.  The QCC Merchant Interviewer badge Des had pinned on him shone brightly on his shirt, and he grinned with a bit of pride as he toted along his clipboard and quill.  Cawing out softly as he glanced around into the forge area, he spoke, "QCC calling!"

Mathias:  :: The sound of hammers pounding metal rang out throughout the shop.  It was a beautiful, steady rhythm.  Almost musical.  A grin came to his face when he heard the familiar caw.  Putting down his hammer, he walked toward the front of his shop.  A brown leather apron covered the front of him and he was clearly sweating.:: What?  Are my taxes due already?

QCC:  "Neu, neu," the Crow laughed softly and reached for a towel, which he handed over to the Islander, "You've been chosen to be interviewed for the QCC Merchant Spotlight!  Everyone loves hearing about the various shops and the hard workers behind them, after-all!  Do you have a second or fifteen to answer some questions?"

Chuckling softly, he hugged the big man before eyeing his surroundings, cozying up next to the warmth of the forge and trying to keep from touching anything hot.

Mathias:  :: He chuckled to his friend and returned in his hug.  Then, he stepped back to wipe off his hands and face.  He turned to toss the towel onto the counter and remove his apron.:: I suppose I have time for a few questions.

QCC:  Glancing around at all the bright, shiny pointy things and sharp objects around the walls, he stared with awe and wonder - then he realized Mathias was speaking to him again.  Pulling his hand away from a box of throwing stars, he sucked on the tip of his finger where he'd pricked it, talking to himself, "Ta, those really *are* sharp!"

"All right!  You have such an amazing selection of weapons and armor, Mathias!  Where do you find such a great inspiration for all your creations?"

Mathias:  :: He chuckled and shook his head.:: Of course they are sharp.  They are instruments of death. :: Moving around the shop, he pulled a pair of chairs out for the two of them and sat down in one.  He groaned softly.  He had been on his feet all day.:: Well, my weapons aren't finished yet.  I'm planning to add some different styles to what I already offer.  My inspiration comes from a lot of things, I guess.  Mostly the ocean.  I like things that flow together.  If I'm making a suit for someone, I try to think of their personality and make armor that will reflect it.  As far as weapons, I think they should be beautiful as well as deadly.  It is all an art form for me.

QCC:  "Instruments of death," he mumbled while picking up a scary Shark Bait cutter dagger and squinting at the hooked edge with a grin, "They'd be really good at cutting food or cheese, too...mmm, cheese...But the ocean, you say!  I can see the power and beauty of each flowing line in all of these - they do glint like the sunlight reflecting off waves, too!  Anyone could appreciate the aesthetics of your work, they really are beautiful!  You say you do custom pieces, though?  How would someone go about having you make a custom suit for someone?  What kind of metals do you use - or can they request that it be made of just about anything?  Can.....can you add sparklies...?" Madje chirped after a moment with a grin...coughing softly and setting the dagger down again before he cut his own fingers off.

Mathias:  Thank you.  I appreciate the compliment.  My work means a lot to me.  But yes, I do take custom orders.  I'm here almost daily, so if anybody is interested they can just come by and talk to me.  I'll take most projects on. :: He gestured around to his various creations, most of which have been made using various types of metals.:: I can work with just about anything, including mithril.  I know most styles as well.  I'm at the service all of my customers.  If they want something specific, I'll do whatever they want within reason.  And yes, I can add gemstones into any armor or weaponry desired.

Madje Askavinge:  "It's really great that you're so flexible like that!  Is there a life-time warrantee on your pieces?  Say, if they happen to break their sword, or it loses its edge, or they're clumsy like me and happen to bend something on accident and they need it to be repaired again?"

Tip-toeing over to the wall of armor, he marveled at the pieces along the wall and stuck his hand into one of the gauntlets - all though, of course, it was way too huge for him to fit.

"Or if they happen to go up or down a few sizes, can
you make adjustments there too?  Like if they go on vacation and gain a few pounds - and oops!  There's the joust just around the corner!"

Mathias:  :: He laughed.  His friend was always so amusing to him.:: Within reason, yeah.  I will sharpen or repair anything you buy from me.  I can make adjustments easily enough.  There are certain things I won't do, but I'm pretty easy going for the most part.

QCC:  "That's good to know, because Gods bless it, I'd probably be coming around weekly to have my things repaired - but at least it will have done it's job protecting me, ay?"

Laughing quietly, he wandered toward the horse barding and picked up one of the headpieces, "Now this is amazing!  You do armoring for horses too!  What would someone need to do to have armor done for their horses?  Do you think you'll have sales for Jousting and Fighting events, maybe?"

Mathias:  :: He chuckled.:: I certainly hope so.  That's why I make the armor for horses as well.  Well, part of the reason.  I don't want to see horses being injured during jousting events anymore than fellow riders.  But if somebody is interested, they just have to ask me about it or leave me a note.  I'll need to see the horse to take measurements, but it is really quite simple.

QCC:  Madje nodded enthusiastically with a chuckle, "All those shattering lances and what-not, you'd want to keep the splinters out of their eyes, too!  Do you give discounts for large orders?  How much time goes into constructing your suits of armor?  I've seen your work for a few custom pieces during the last Joust, and it was really spectacular - but it must have taken you several hours!  Also, can you enchant armor, as well, or does that have to be done somewhere else?"

Mathias:  :: He smiled.:: Some of the more elaborate pieces took me a few days to finish.  I can't enchant anything, unfortunately.  That will have to be done by someone else.  But I'm very flexible with payment.  I don't offer discounts at the moment, but I am always willing to work with my customers.

QCC:  "That's really nice to know, too!  What would you like to carry in the future?  You've already got so much stuff to offer, it's incredible!  Do you work alone, or do you have anyone helping you?"

Madje chirped, picking up one of the pirate-style scimitars, his mouth curving into an excited, 'o'.  He squinted and stood clear of the Islander before giving it a playful swing and catching himself before he went stumbling off into the barrel of water, squawking quietly, "Au, tzscht!"

Mathias:  :: He laughed and remained in his chair.  He knew the crow wouldn't damage any of his goods.:: I'd like to expand to carry a few more variety of knives, axes, and pole arms.  I don't really have any way of expanding my armor. :: He smiled with a bit of pride.:: I work by myself.  Everything here was done by my hands.  I could use some extra hands, but I'm making do for now.

QCC:  Well, he wouldn't damage any of Mathias' good on purpose or on accident, if he could help it - neu, neu, he set the sword down on its holder again and folded his hands behind his back so he wouldn't touch anything again!

"I imagine that a lot of people would really look forward to the expansion of your shop!  It really is incredible that you're able to do all of this for yourself, and those who buy from you!  How did you originally get into such an intensive craft such as blacksmithing?   Who did you learn your trade from?"

Mathias:  I am really looking forward to expanding even more.  I want to offer something for everybody.  Not just the standard stuff. :: He smiled and shrugged.:: I've always had this need to create.  I'm a warrior by trade, but I wanted something right to create.  Something that could possibly replace the things I destroy.  I don't mean to say that my items can replace a lost life.  It's just that I've recently discovered that I'm tied into the water element.  Like all elements, it is able to create and destroy.  I kind of like that thought.  I learned how to do this from a few different men over the years.  I've been on my own since I was about 14.  So over 10 years or so.  Most of my time I've been traveling.  I worked as an apprentice or anybody that would hire me.  So I've learned from a number of different masters.

QCC:  Looking on with a smile spread ear-to-ear, he tapped his thumb against his chin and nodded, "That's such a wonderful sentiment, too, I really like that aspect that you have, and I think it lends a whole new light on what it is you do!  Thank you so much for spending this time with me, because I'm sure a lot of people will be interested to learn more about the artisan behind Dreaded Islander Forge!  Do you have anything that you'd like to add before I go?"

Mathias:  :: He chuckled and got to his feet slowly.:: I'm happy to talk about it.  I take great pride in what I do.  I don't really know what else I could add.  I pretty much let my work speak for itself.

QCC:  "All right!!  We're all squared away, then!  Thank you so much for your time, I really think a lot of people will be glad to have heard from you!  I'll leave you to your business then, and I wish you lots of luck with your business!  Good night, Mathias," reaching up, he hugged the man gently and patted his back, not minding in the least bit that he was sweaty and slippery.

Mathias:  Take care of yourself my friend. :: He returned the hug with a smile.  He waited for his friend to leave before returning to his work.::

ABOUT OUR MAILSTRINGS

QCC Voluntary Mailstring

This mailing list is made up of QCC members who have consented to be on it. The purpose of this list is to allow business announcements and flyers to be sent to those groups and individuals that welcome the information and intend to distribute it to their members. This mailing list does not replace any mailing lists compiled by individual businesses or event hosts from their own patrons and customers.

Being a member of the QCC does not automatically put you on this list! It is by request only. Sign yourself up if you want to receive Voluntary mailings.

Mail List Alert

If you receive mail list alerts for any of the QCC mail lists, please forward them to council@questcoin.com. Sometimes when we are updating the mail lists, an SN gets put back into the signup list. That auto-generates a privacy alert that gets mailed to you. If you'll forward those alerts to the council, we'll know you got it. It was most likely triggered by something we did; but if we didn't do it, we'll certainly want to know. :)

QCC Member Mail List

Any QCC members who wish to be on the QCC Members' Mail List to receive QCC Updates directly from the Council should send a note to council@questcoin.com to be added to the list. This does not take the place of the Voluntary Mail List. Sign-up for the Voluntary Mail List is still self service and you'll find the sign-up page here:  QCC Voluntary Mailstring

**Mail List Notes: We don't care if the addresses on the mail lists are for RP characters or not. If you have AIM characters and you want to put a non-RP address on the mail lists to get the QCC notices, that's fine with us.
