First, we want to thank you for showing interest in announcing. When we started QCC Racing back in September 2000, we had 6 races consisting of 31 horses on a
single night of festivities. We had 3 announcers, and it was a nice leisurely
night at the races.
Today, we have over 400 racers registered with the QCC and the races are split
over two months, two nights each month. While participation was never a problem,
the one thing we have always had trouble keeping up with is the announcing. A
good, reliable pool of announcers is so vital to the continuing prosperity of
the races and we thank you for taking enough of an interest in it that you would
give it a try. :)
Three additional documents are available on this site. One will be a 'Proctor'
sheet, one will be a sample log that is submitted after each race and one is an
example of an announcer's sheet that you would receive prior to the races.
This isn't the easiest thing to do. I've been told that announcing a QCC horse
race is akin to proctoring a mass spar. In this case, though, not only do you
add the rolls, but you are also the one doing the rolling and putting all the
commentary into the room as well. What the announcer does is put on the entire
presentation for the audience. It's a lot of typing, rolling and adding just as
fast as you can go. :)
If, during the course of the race, an error occurs--such as an incorrect roll or
adding wrong-- just make the correction and keep going. In the unlikely event
that the whole thing gets botched up, make sure you roll 6 times, wrap up the
race by making a comment about a technical difficulty and let the audience know
the outcome of the race will be reviewed and announced later. We haven't had to
do that yet, but in the event it comes up, we want to make sure you understand
that you have an out to wrap up the race. Slap rolls into the room until you
have 6, C&P the log to council@questcoin.com and let us review it.
As an announcer, you are not
responsible to field questions, complaints, or disputes about the way the race
is slotted, run, or over the outcome. If anyone gives you grief, simply refer
them to the Council.
Questions during the race should be directed to the witness/witnesses. Don't let
people bug you while you are announcing. You should block everyone except for
your witnesses.
Look over the documents. If anyone wants some more race logs to look at, let us
know. Any questions you have can be answered by Council.
When you feel comfortable enough to give it a try, let us know and we'll get
together with you to run some mock races.
