Who can have a stable in the QCC?
Any member of the QCC can own and operate a stable. If you are a member of a guild in the QCC, you are already in the forum. If you are not a member of a guild already in the QCC, you can register as an Individual and become a member.
Where do I get the horses?
~If you are the member of a guild, you can advertise to your guild mates. Let them know you have a stable and invite them to put their horses in your stable to race them. How you work out paying them and what percentage you take as the stable owner is up to you.
~You can put your own IC's horses into the stable if your IC has horses.
~You can buy new racers from dealers or breeders in the QCC. The QCC also has breeders that buy and sell QCC ranked horses.
How is it determined what horse runs in what race?
Rank and the order that you register your stable each month. All horses are grouped by rank and then put into the races in the order that they were registered. The earlier that they are registered, the closer to the inside pole position they will be.
I have animals that aren't horses. Can they race too?
Yes. The QCC Racing Commission also holds races for flying creatures, odd and unusual creatures, and creatures that run fast but aren't horses. (see question dealing with valid SLs for unusual racers)
What is rank and bonus?
Rank is the level that the animal competes at. Every animal registered with the QCC Racing Commission starts at level 0. After a racer finishes in the top three positions 3 times, it gains one rank.
Bonus is awarded per race. If a racer finishes in the top three positions, he is awarded bonus point/points. If he fails to finish in the top three, he loses a bonus point. The lowest a racer can go is -3.
Why are rank and bonus significant?
The higher the rank, the more money is in the purse for the racer to win.
The bonus gives the animal a starting point for each race. An animal that is finishing in the top three positions pretty consistently will have a high bonus and so has an edge to keep winning. Since the roll of the dice determines who wins and loses, the bonuses are a way for us to give an animal an edge. IRL, an animal with superior breeding or training may have an edge to win. We feel that we've captured that edge using the bonuses.
What are the vet inspections for?
The vet inspections provide a way for us to introduce a random selection to who runs and who doesn't in each month's race event.
I want to make a stable, but I don't know how to make webpages. Does it have to have a webpage?
No. It doesn't *have* to have a webpage, but we encourage it. If you don't know how to make a page, let us know. We can help. It isn't as hard as you think. With the publishers available now, you don't have to know a thing about html and you can make pages. Trust me.
Are there meetings to attend and dues to pay?
No meetings, but there are registration fees. There is an initial fee to register your stable and then each month there are fees to register each animal for the next race event.
Couldn't I just pull animals out that have negative bonuses and keep putting new animals in so I have a better chance of winning?
No. That isn't how it works and doing that is viewed as abuse of the system. It creates alot more work for the administrators who already have more work then they can handle. It is cheating, and abuse of the system could very well get your stable suspended.
While bonuses may sway the finishing placement of a racer, they are not the end all deciding factor. Racers with negative bonuses win sometimes and racers with high bonuses still lose. What is more important than bonus is ranking. The higher the rank, the more money is in the purse for the racer to win. In order to gain rank, you have to leave the racer in, regardless of their bonus, and let them run. Rank is gained over the long term while bonus is just short term and changes quickly.
Keep in mind that your racers don't have to *win* to bring in the purses and gain rank. A racer that consistently finishes third will come home with purses and gain rank just as quickly as an animal that finishes in first all the time.
You said that you want 'valid SLs' for unusual animals that are registered to race. What do you mean?
The QCC wants to promote good, interactive RP. What we found in the past is that some people were POOF'ing things into existence and entering them to race to be funny. We allow all sorts of creatures to race and people were trying to think up weird and strange animals, make up a name for them and register them in the races. They wouldn't offer any kind of SL for how the creature came into existence or why the creature could run so fast.
That sort of POOF RP took away the fun from those of us that were trying to legitimize our racers. For example, Faylin breeds horses. I can go back over 3 mun years and show you many posts on 2 guild's message boards that mention Faylin having and/or breeding horses. He also races ostriches that he purchased from a breeder on Talernon. I can show you the posted SL from two mun years ago that involved the importing of ostriches to Talernon. When Faylin joined the QCC, there were valid SLs in place giving provenance to him owning and breeding these animals for him to race.
We're not saying that you have to have these long standing SLs in order to enter an 'unusual' racer to the QCC, but we don't want people to just make up weird animals with no SL and think it is funny to race them against animals that people have established provenance for. If you want to race an odd or unusual animal that you haven't previously established provenance for, at least have the courtesy to put up an SL establishing its existence, maybe saying how your IC came to own it; and if it is an animal that isn't usually fast, explain why it runs fast enough to compete in the races. We don't think that is too much to ask. We don't want to be policing people's RP. We just want to make sure that RP is happening. :)
I have a horse with the same name as a horse already registered in the QCC. What do I do to enable me to register him?
You'll be asked to change the horse's name slightly just to differentiate between the two animals. For example, if your animal is named Misfit and there is already an animal registered named Misfit, you can alter it slightly to be Smokey's Misfit [or whatever your IC's name is] or something along those lines. If you look over the list of all QCC registered racers [Quest Coin Coalition>Racing>Registered Stables>List of All Registered Racers], you'll avoid delays in getting your animals registered for the next race event.
